CONSIDERING WISDOM

Posted by Elfriede Copple

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone from Mike and Elfriede! Wishing 2020 to be full of blessings from the Lord for you. May He open doors, and prepare opportunities for us to share His word and the Gospel message.

The title of today’s blog post is CONSIDERING WISDOM which is also the title of our new book to be published early this year. We are in the final stages of preparing the manuscript and cover design for the publisher. We thought that we would share an excerpt with you today.

Chapter 3

Consider the Source

A statement that’s often heard after an eyebrow-raising report has been announced: “Consider the source.” Mankind’s methods of attempting to influence an opinion upon others often leads to a bogus means of deception. The result can leave doubt upon the listener and devalue the speaker’s integrity. Truth must be upheld to preserve integrity.

Jesus said, “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.”   John 18:37b

Both of the Father and of Christ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.   Colossians 2:2b-3

But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God…
1 Corinthians 1:30a

From where then does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the birds of the air. Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a report about it with our ears.’ God understands its way, and He knows its place. For He looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heavens, to establish a weight for the wind, and apportion the waters by measure. When He made a law for the rain, and a path for the thunderbolt, then He saw wisdom and declared it; He prepared it, indeed, He searched it out. And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.’”   Job 28:20-28

The Book of Job, likely written between 2100 and 1900 BC, is probably the oldest Book in the Bible. Before the Scriptures were written, wisdom was hidden from the eyes; but now we obtain wisdom from God through His inspired Words in the completed Holy Bible.

God, the Foundation of all wisdom—the Source of wisdom—has not been acknowledged by scientists: “Origin of the Species”, “The Boiling Point”, “The heat is On”, “An inconvenient truth”: all ignore and contradict the Library of wisdom and truth: the Holy Bible. The Bible consists of 66 Books that provide guidance for God’s Truth, our belief, our values, and His invitation for our rescue from eternal suffering—to eternal life. This Good Book is what imparts wisdom upon our souls.

We’ve all heard these famous statements: “Only two things are for sure: death and taxes,” and “None of us are going to get out of this alive.” The Scriptures make it clear.

The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.   Psalm 90:10-12

Therefore, just as through one man [Adam] sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
Romans 5:12

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
Hebrews 9:27

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Romans 6:23

See then that you walk circumspectly [cautiously], not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.   Ephesians 5:15-17

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.   1 Corinthians 1:18

Charles H. Spurgeon said, “As one human mind operates upon another mind, so does the Holy Spirit influence our spirits. We are forced to use words if we would influence our fellow-men, but the Spirit of God can operate upon the human mind more directly, and communicate with it in silence. Into that matter, however, we will not dive lest we intrude where our knowledge would be drowned by our presumption.”[1]

Satan, deceiving and using some men to influence us, wants to hold on to our souls by keeping us in a “state of fear.” But God in heaven who created us, has put us in a struggle with Satan for possession of our souls. God has a plan, and when we seek wisdom, we indeed do find wisdom. In the end, God wins the souls of those who trust in Him and believe in Him. Once we believe in Him, Satan cannot have our souls. Jesus is quoted:

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”   Matthew 10:28

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? … For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:35a, 38-39

God’s wisdom as related to nature and our minds and souls is supernaturally linked:

He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes; He casts out His hail like morsels; who can stand before His cold?  He sends out his word and melts them [melts the pellets of hail—which will be 80 to 100 Lb hail balls in the soon coming Great Tribulation period: Revelation 16:21]; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow.   Psalm 147:16-18
