Last week we wrote about the white and the red horses. Today we continue with the black and the pale horses.
What does the horses’ colour represent?
Who is the rider and what is his goal?
The Antichrist is again the one who will sit on the black horse. This one represents gloom and distress for those on earth during the Great Tribulation.
Revelation 6:5b-6a
5bSo I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales [a symbol of famine since the grain was rationed] in his hand. 6aAnd I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart [about one quart] of wheat for a denarius [one day’s wages for a worker—represents tremendous inflation];
Luke 21:11
“And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs form heaven.”
The Antichrist is taking full advantage of his power but his power is diminishing rapidly.
Nothing can withstand the wrath of Almighty God.
Will we find the Antichrist also on the Pale Horse?
What power will he exercise or what tragedy will he bring upon the people on the earth?
This horse is also for the Antichrist. The paleness represents death.
We see that the four horses—the white, red, black and pale horse—represent the seven year career of the Antichrist. During his reign death will occur for a quarter of the earth’s population. This will all be due to war, famine, and pestilences. The war of Armageddon will end the Antichrist’s life on earth, but he will suffer eternal punishment along with the false prophet.
Revelation 19:19-21
19And I saw the beast [the Antichrist man], the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the [white] horse and against His army. 20Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
Satan, the one who’s been “ruler of the world” for so long will also come to an end of his line of business:
Revelation 20:7-10
7Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Māgog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
All power on opposition to our holy God will be gone forever and ever.
Praise God for His grace and mercy, and the gift of eternal life!
