Some Die Once – Many Die Twice [Part 12]

In Part 12 of our series of Blog Posts from our upcoming book titled “One Way or Another Your Eternal Destination is Guaranteed” let’s look at the question: What Prevents Man from Going to Heaven? And Summary of Chapter Three.”

We prove that we are separated from God by our behavior of breaking the Law—any of His Ten Commandments; even telling a lie. We all die because of the sin which was first committed by Adam:

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.

Romans 5:12-15
Therefore, just as through one man [Adam] sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus sin spread to all men, because all sinned— (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed [considered] when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, [to whom the law was given] even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, [a man] who is a type of Him [a Man] who was to come. But the free gift [life] is not like the offense [penalty is death].  For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.)

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:21-22
For since by man [Adam] came death, by Man [Jesus] also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

Hope of Going to Heaven

Just because mankind can be destined to die, please, do not lose hope. In order to be returned to God, from the moment of that first offense, we can be redeemed back to God. Only by our sincere, remorseful repenting of our sins and our belief in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus forgiving us, can God be satisfied to allow us to be with Him:

Romans 3:24-25
being justified [being declared righteous by faith and belief] freely by his grace through the redemption [being purchased by the shed blood of Jesus and brought back to God] that is in Christ Jesus, whom God hath set forth as a propitiation [God’s satisfaction to be merciful when we accept forgiveness] by His [Jesus’] blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance [tolerance and patience] God had passed over the sins that were previously committed.

The word propitiation means that God’s judicial wrath for our offenses has been satisfied by the judgment of His life giving Son on our behalf. We receive this benefit of mercy when we trust in Christ alone to save us. God’s mercy is shown to those who trust His truth, and believe in Him and His only begotten Son.

Discernment

We become aware of being separated from God through a guilty conscience, being convicted by the Holy Spirit. With the Spirit indwelling us we become able to discern God’s truth. We can only be reconciled to be with Him when we know Him and believe in Him. Paul the apostle reminded us of how we were, and he said it best:

Colossians 1:19-22
For it pleased the Father that in Him [in His Son] all the fullness [of God] should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and blameless, and above reproach [righteous] in his sight

Summary of Chapter Three

Going to Heaven

No matter what we eat or do not eat, we are bound for death. We try to eat healthy and exercise regularly because we want to feel good reaching that destination. But physical strength is only temporary whereas spiritual exercise is eternal:

1 Timothy 4:8
For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having a promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

God does not accept sin in His heaven. We can only get to heaven by being justified by God when He views us as being blameless and righteous. We can only have God’s righteousness by our faith and belief in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The righteousness we receive from God is in His mercy and grace for us and in His love and appreciation of us knowing, loving, and believing in Him in return.
