Some Die Once – Many Die Twice [Part 14]

In Part 14 of our series of Blog Posts from our upcoming book titled “One Way or Another Your Eternal Destination is Guaranteed” we are going to look at: “The Ten Commandments”

The Ten Commandments

What are those Ten Commandments? The following list is from Exodus 20:3-17 and it is repeated in Deuteronomy 5:7-21. Our Lord God is quoted:

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.”
  2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water beneath the earth.”
[In other words, we are not to worship anything made to be an idol—not even God’s creation (this includes mankind: actors, entertainers, politicians) and not anything made by man.]
You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God. am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
  3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless [innocent] who takes His name in vain.”
[If a person has said for God to damn anyone or any thing—or—if the name of Jesus Christ is misused, then this Commandment has been broken.]
  4. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.”
[For Judaism the Sabbath day is Saturday. But in the New Testament, for the Christian, since the resurrection and then Pentecost, it has been changed to the first day of the week (Acts 2:1; 20:7) The Lord Jesus is quoted in The Gospel According to Mark:
The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” [Mark 2:27-28]
Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”
  5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land
[the promised land Israel for the Israelites, but the promised heaven for His Body of believers]
which the LORD your God is giving you.”
  6. You shall not murder.”
[The original Hebrew for kill (KJV) is ratsach which means to murder or slay. The OT recognizes the distinction between premeditated murder and unintentional killing. – Source: The New Strong’s Expanded Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible © 2001 byThomas Nelson Publishers, Hebrew and Aramaic Dictionary, p. 266, Number 7523.]
  7. You shall not commit adultery.”
[Adultery is committed when sexual relations are done out of wedlock; wherein it is called fornication. Adultery includes immoral sex acts such as women with women, men with men, and whoever looks at a woman who is not his wife to lust for her (Matthew 5:28). Also lustfully looking at pornography—a word which “comes from the Greek word pornēia—fornication—illicit, obscene sexual activity. Porneua is to commit fornication. Porne is any woman indulging in unlawful sexual intercourse, usually driven by lust, maybe for gain. Pornos is a male prostitute, a debauchee, whoremonger in Eph 5:5; 1 Ti 1:10; Heb 13:4; Rev 21:8; 22:15.” – Source: The New Strong’s Expanded Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible © 2001 byThomas Nelson Publishers,  Greek Dictionary, p. 207, Numbers 4202-4205. See also Romans 1:24-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9; Titus 3:3; Revelation 21:8.]
  8. You shall not steal.”
[Anyone who steals anything is called a thief. Even stealing a pencil or copying a CD or DVD illegally amounts to stealing.]
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”
[In other words, if a person tells a lie, he is a liar, and has broken this Commandment.]
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox nor his donkey, nor any thing that is your neighbor’s.”
[The term neighbor encompasses a comprehensive scope.]

Disobeying the Ten Commandments

We know the true story of a man who’d been married over 25 years, and he’d become an adulterer. He began getting somewhat into the Scriptures at about the same time as getting mixed up in a long distance affair with an adulterous woman who’d also been married many years. Noticing his interest in the Bible, she asked him if he believed in God. Sensing that she wanted him to say, “No”, he instead said, “I do believe what the Bible says is true.” The moment he verbalized his sincere, true reaction, he felt his blood rush through his torso. He didn’t realize it at that moment; but thinking back on it, he realized that this was the instant he’d been saved with a new heart and new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26-27). His whole life changed after that moment.

The man became uncomfortable with the relationship and soon told her he could no longer continue with the relationship. She expressed her disappointment, but his new spirit reminded him that he was a slave to sinning against God and his family.

God Predicted Her Answer

She said, “I don’t think we’re doing anything wrong.”

Then he began seeking the Lord to help and comfort him. He soon read the following:

This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.” Proverbs 30:20

Know the Ten Commandments

The Lord says:
If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31b-32

The truth of that Proverb 30:20 made him realize that God’s Word is absolutely true, and the truth did indeed set him free from practicing sin.

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. John 8:36

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity… Jeremiah 29:11-14a

True?

How do we know the story of that adulterous man is true? It is true because it is the testimony of the author who is writing what you are reading. I thank the Lord Jesus for shedding His blood to forgive me and for giving His life so that I can have life.
