Some Die Once – Many Die Twice [Part 13]
Welcome to 2025!
And getting back into a posting routine! Here we go:
In Part 13 of our series of Blog Posts from our upcoming book titled “One Way or Another Your Eternal Destination is Guaranteed” we are going to look at: “Believe and Learn from History!”
Be Prepared and Believe
Since so many have died before us, and will be judged for eternal consequences—whether good or bad, then we best give attention to what God says in His Word to be prepared. He tells us to look at the terrible things that happened to the Israelites so as not to repeat their mistakes.
Romans 15:4
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
1 Corinthians 10:6
Now these things became our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
1 Corinthians 10:11
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written [in the OT] for our admonition [instruction], upon whom the ends of the ages are come.
History
When we read of the Israelites’ offenses in the OT, we need to remember the Messiah God of Israel is the same One true Savior God Almighty of the New Testament. Augustine said:
“The New is in the Old concealed; The Old is in the New revealed.” In Latin translation his words say,
“The New is in the Old contained; The Old is in the New explained.”
(quoted from the Believer’s Bible Commentary, © 1995, 1992, 1990, 1989 by William MacDonald. pp. 15, 20)
Believe and Learn from History
What God’s Word says about Israel and their behavior is to be applied to the lives of all people whom God created. The God of Israel is the God of all creation—that is, He is the God of everyone, Israelites and all other nationalities alike. The essence of God is divine, and each Person in the Godhead has a different role. Generally speaking, the Father directs, the Son does the Father’s will and the Holy Spirit enables the Father’s will to be done through the Son. In the two following verses we read that both the Father and the Son have authority to send the Holy Spirit into our lives. Jesus is quoted:
John 14:26
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
John 15:26
“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”
Quoting William MacDonald ( Believer’s Bible Commentary, © 1995, 1992, 1990, 1989 by William MacDonald. p. 1552, v.26)
“Is this not another proof of the equality of the Son and the Father? Who but God could send One who is God?”
The Righteous Judge
When we think about a foreseeable, inevitable death, we should realize that God is a righteous judge. The Lord Jesus, being fully Man and fully God, was the only One who never broke any of God’s Ten Commandments. Therefore, the Father gave Jesus the authority to judge mankind.
John 5:22
“For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son.”
Each person who has ever lived will face the blameless Judge either for reward or for sentence. Believers will be judged for reward, and unbelievers will be sentenced.
Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Isaiah 45:14a
Thus says the LORD:
Isaiah 45:21b-23
And there is no other God besides Me, a just God and Savior; there is none besides Me. Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath.
Romans 14:15b
There will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.
Daniel 12:2
And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.
We were in sin before we realized it. Upon knowing that we have broken one of God’s Ten Commandments (also called the law in the Bible) we become aware of our need for the Savior who was tempted just like us, but never committed a sin.
Romans 3:20b
For by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Hebrews 4:15b
[The Lord Jesus] was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
