Some Die Once – Many Die Twice [Part 20]

In Part 20 of our series of Blog Posts from our upcoming book titled “One Way or Another Your Eternal Destination is Guaranteed” we are going to look at the question: “What if a Child Dies before reaching the Age of Accountability? Infants have not Discerned the Gospel, and Life is in the Blood”

Life, the result of God’s miracle called procreation, is the opposite of death. Some have said that an embryo and a fetus are only a blob, a mass of tissue and not a live human being. However, Scripture says that life is in the blood which leads us to believe life begins at conception.

Reading in Leviticus 17:11 that “the life of the flesh [a creature] is in the blood.” God’s Word repeats it thrice more in verse 14:

For it [blood] is the life of all flesh [every creature]. Its blood sustains its life.
for the life of all flesh [again, every creature] is its blood   Leviticus 17:14a, c

Plasma/DNA

Another reason for believing life begins at conception is because life is transferred by the high percentage of plasma which is contained not only in blood, but also in semen.

DNA reveals the secret of transferred life. DNA provides and confirms the continuity of parental life. The baby is forever in the bloodline of the parents. Blood, containing DNA, provides the continuation of life. Life cannot carry on without blood. To provide life requires life. Life cannot be produced without life. Life is transmitted from the live parents to form the live embryo, the live fetus, and, given time, gives birth to the live baby.

Children often take on looks that are very similar to that of one or both of the parents.

Life or Death?

During a pregnancy there are often times when serious health concerns arise for both the laboring mother and the soon coming baby. Considering the extreme weakness of an embryo or a fetus, we know and trust that God is in control of the situation:

God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. 1 Corinthians 1:27b

If a fetus dies prior to the Rapture, does God save the embryos and fetuses of the unbelieving parents? Of course, we think He does:

For there is no partiality with God. Romans 2:11

What does our impartial, just God instruct judges to do?

You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty.   Leviticus 19:15

These things also belong to the wise: It is not good to show partiality in judgment.   Proverbs 24:23

You shall not be afraid in any man’s presence, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, bring to me [Moses], and I will hear it.’”    Deuteronomy 1:17b

You shall appoint judges…and they shall judge the people with just judgment” [fairly].   Deuteronomy 16:18a, c

Freedom to Live

We’ve often heard this plea voiced from abortion advocates: “It is freedom of choice.” However, we cannot physically hear the fetus say, “I would like freedom to live.” Can a fetus speak up when being judged to die? Are their lives being judged with just judgment; fairly”? Does anyone care about those who cannot speak for themselves? Our God does:

Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously…   Proverbs 31:8-9a

“‘You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small as well as the great;’”   Deuteronomy 1:17a

Age of Accountability

When a person, either child or adult, reaches the age of accountability, it is absolutely imperative to make this decision. Quoting William MacDonald:

“In every age of the world’s history there has been only one gospel, only one way to salvation.”

Embryo/Fetus

The opposite of death—being life, leads some to think that a live person is not eligible to be called a living human being until after exiting the mother’s womb. However, life has begun at conception: Embryo is defined in the Webster Dictionary:

“The first rudiments of an animal in the womb, before several members are distinctly formed after which it is called a fetus… the beginning or first state of anything.” So in this case…the embryo is the beginning of human life.

One reason for including this definition is to point out that these early stages of human life are prime examples of the little ones having neither conscience nor opportunity.

Quoting Harry A. Ironside in An Ironside Expository Commentary on the Book of Revelation, Chapter 5:9-10 KJV:

And they sang a new song, saying, thou art worthy to take the book, and to loose the seals thereof, for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God, by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue, and people, and nation, and hast made them unto our God a kingdom of priests, and they shall reign over the earth.  It is not merely of themselves they sing but of all the redeemed; so the living ones, the divine attributes, join in it, too.

And note the great throng suggested by the words of the song. Far more people will be in heaven than will ever be lost in hell! All of the babes that died in infancy will be there. What a throng will fill that home! And oh, how wonderful the fellowship! We shall have the society of all of the pure and holy made pure by the blood of Jesus. But notice carefully what they sing up there. They ascribe their redemption entirely to the Lamb and His work. Those are the saints of God.

Freedom of Choice

Does God select human beings He wants to be saved? No. He wants all men to be saved, but He gives each person the freedom to make the decision of whether or not to accept the Lord Jesus as his Savior.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4

In no way do I want to offend anyone on their view of believers being elected or predestined. But since the decision to either accept or reject the Lord Jesus is so vitally important to the subject of one’s death, I do want to express what God’s Word has to say about the controversial subject of God electing us or predestining us. To begin with, quoting Peter Kerr from his book, Election and Predestination, basic definitions with the original Greek are thoroughly provided.

The consensus views claim that election means that God chose individuals for either eternal life or damnation. The Armenian view claims that the election of individuals to salvation is based upon God’s foreknowledge of who would be willing to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. A primary Scripture used to support this theological position is 1 Peter 1:2, “chosen according to the foreknowledge of God” (NIV). However, as has been demonstrated, the word elect has no direct association with foreknowledge in this verse; rather the word elect is connected with the word pilgrims.

The other consensus view, Calvinism, strongly holds that individual election to salvation is not on the basis of anything foreseen in man, but is based on God’s eternal decree.

However, the findings presented in this book [Election and Predestination] firmly establish that biblical election relates to God’s choosing of people to a specific purpose and privilege, not to individual salvation or damnation.

I strongly recommend Peter Kerr’s book to all who have questions or would take interest in the important matter of God’s choosing versus man’s making the Decision to accept Christ for salvation. With humility and an in-depth approach Peter has helped me to better and more thoroughly understand this critical issue.
