HOW DO WE BUY FROM THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND WHY?
REVELATION 3:18 [Jesus speaking]
“I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.” (NKJV)
Let’s try to unpack this!
Gold is used figuratively for purity or righteousness! Referenced from:
A – International Standard Bible Encyclopedia Online (under 5. Figurative, line 4)
“Refining of gold is a figure for great purity”.
B – H. A. Ironside says in his New Testament Commentary (mantisbible.com) that it is “divine righteousness”.
1 Peter 1:7 “that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,” (NKJV)
-refined by fire– “God uses trial and suffering to separate the believer from those things that hinder fellowship with God and growth in the spiritual life.” quote from H. A. Ironside.

Getting back to “purity” and “righteousness”. JESUS IS PURE AND RIGHTEOUS! GOD’S WORD IS PURE AND ENDURES FOREVER (Proverbs 30:5; 1 Peter 1:25)! As humans, we cannot behave righteous out of our own strength all the time, we will stumble when we go by God’s standard for righteousness. (Exodus 20:2-17 Ten Commandments)
So how do we achieve “righteousness” in God’s eyes – buy “gold” from Jesus and why?
We need to be cleansed from our sin/unrighteousness. This is
achieved by Jesus Christ taking upon Himself all the world’s sins, and taking
the punishment – the death sentence that we deserve, and dying a terrible death
on the cross!
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For
He made Him who knew no sin to be
sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
GotQuesitons.org comments: “On the cross Jesus exchanged our sin for His perfect righteousness so that we can one day stand before God and He will see not our sin, but the holy righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
How can Jesus’ death cleanse us from our sin and unrighteousness when Jesus is quoted in John 15:5c saying: “Apart from Me you can do nothing“,?
This is the easy part! We need to become part of Jesus, part of His body the church; Jesus is the Head of the church and the believers are the body. You can become part of the body when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (NKJV)
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I amthe way,the truth, andthe life.No one comes to the Fatherexcept through Me.” (NKJV)
Repent of your sins, turn away from them, confess them to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Believe that Jesus died on the cross for you/us, was buried and rose again on the third day. Invite Christ into your heart and life! That’s how you become a part of the body!
Buy GOLD from Jesus by obeying, abiding and reading daily God’s word the Bible.
Acts 16:31 “So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved,” (NKJV)
