WHAT IS THAT TO ME?
These questions are being asked over and over again. How do we answer them? Is there a short answer to the first question? Like:
He died in our place, paying the price for our sins, to save us from eternal suffering in hell!
Is that the short answer?
It’s a true statement but most people would argue that they aren’t sinners, so it wouldn’t be of any help to them as an explanation. We need to cut to their heart, meaning they need to understand what a “sin/sinner” is! If they don’t understand that they have sinned than they don’t need the Savior either!
The Apostle Paul said:
“I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” (Romans 7:7 NKJV)
The law made the Apostle Paul aware of the fact that he was a sinner and needed a Savior!
May we use the law in answering the question why Jesus died on the cross!
“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” (Exodus 20:7 NIV)
How many people use the Lord’s name in vain daily? They don’t even know what they are doing because everyone seems to be doing it! So what? – If they only knew!
“You shall not steal.” (Exodus 20:15 NIV)
Who hasn’t taken something that doesn’t belong to them? Even taking a paperclip from your office, or picking an apple from a tree that is hanging over the fence is “stealing”. Narrow minded? NO!
“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” (Exodus 20:16 NIV)
Lying has been made so acceptable in our society. It’s just a little white lie! Integrity is a rare find nowadays.
We are all guilty of breaking God’s commandments! No exceptions! And since we are all guilty we need a Savior because we cannot pay the price required to achieve “righteousness in the eyes of the Lord”.
So, the BAD NEWS is that we are all guilty and should be condemned to hell for eternity!
The GOOD NEWS is that if you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, seriously repent of your sins, turn away from them, ask God the Father for forgiveness for your wrong doings, and invite the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart, He will save you and give you the gift of eternal life!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 NKJV)
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8 NKJV)
David Dunlap, president of Cornerstone Magazine, wrote: “There are no special works required for God’s salvation. Faith in Christ is a response of the heart, not a work.”
However, YOU have to accept the free gift. It will change your life!
Have you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior?
Is there anything holding you back?
