Some Die Once – Many Die Twice [Part 21]

In Part 21 of our series of Blog Posts from our upcoming book titled “One Way or Another Your Eternal Destination is Guaranteed” we are going to look at the question: “Without God, Man Cannot Stop Time; Time Does Not Stop; and No Hope Brings About Depression”

Each morning when your feet hit the floor, you are one day closer to the last day of your life here on earth. In one sense time is long—forever in one’s mind. On the other hand, time can be very short. Some people die at a very young age—some, even before exiting the womb. Human beings can die at any age. Human life, if able to continue to its oldest years, goes through phases: the embryo stage, the fetal stage, birth, infancy, toddler, teen, adult, middle age, senior, and old age. During each of those stages the human being exists: spirit, soul, and body. But somewhere in this length of time, your body’s life on this earth will end.

Time

Since this book is focused primarily on the decision whether to either accept or reject the Lord Jesus—and consequently either one death or two deaths, it seems fair to recall that we do not have the liberty to decide the time.

Life is something like taking a test: There is a time limit. Hurrying through it we sometimes hasten to get to the finish. But, at the end, as we check our decisions, we are informed, “Your time’s up.”

Eternity

Time will continue for all eternity. Our souls and spirits will consciously continue through unending time. The theme of this book, during this present brief life, for each and every one of us, is to make the decision which will determine our eternal futures.

There are three possibilities:

  1. While mature enough to know right from wrong, if no decision is made, then God’s promise for the second death and endless suffering will be the end result.
  2. If the decision is to clearly reject the Lord Jesus as personal Savior, then the end result will most likely be an even higher degree of eternal grief and misery.
  3. Having decided to accept the Lord Jesus, the promised eternal life will have already begun and will never come to an end (Romans 8:35-39). There will be no second death.

God and Time

Time has been running on since before God created everything we see: The sun, moon, seasons, years, months, weeks, days and nights, hours, minutes and seconds all continue. Only God can stop time, as He did in Joshua 10:12-14. Man has no control over it. And Scripture promises God will end the earth and heavens. But time will continue.

But the day of the Lord [God’s judgment] will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 2 Peter 3:10-12

Why is it important to realize time does not stop? It is because the decision to either accept or reject the Savior does not depend upon our own schedule. Our days are determined; meaning our days remaining alive on this earth are foreseen by our Creator. But our souls and spirits continue for infinity. Some will enjoy new glorious bodies!

No Hope Brings About Depression

Pat Boone in the movie God’s Not Dead 2, said, “The problem with atheism is: it doesn’t take away the pain; it only takes away the hope.”

When a person is suffering and has no hope for restoration, it can become extremely depressing. But if there is a glimpse of hope, the situation can inspire one to press on—to feel that spark of energy that is immensely needed for physical, mental and spiritual endurance.

in hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, Titus 1:2

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, Titus 2:13

that having been justified [declared righteous for entry into heaven] by His [God’s] grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind [prepare your mind for action], be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:13

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain; for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
