What is Revealed about the Lord Jesus Christ in the Book of Revelation?

(Part 2 of 2)

Today we are continuing our study in the Book of Revelation with regard to what this book revealed about Jesus Christ to us.

The Judge

The Lord Jesus is the only One who can save us from His wrath, and He will judge and win the final battle.

Romans 5:9
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:9
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
John 3:36
“He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

The White Horse

First of, you might be wondering why John writes in past tense even though he is writing a future event. It’s because he is writing about a vision he had seen:

Revelation 19:11-12
Now I [John] saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He [Jesus] who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.

Now, here is a comment by William MacDonald on Revelation 19:11-12:

When Christ is first seen back on earth He is riding a white horse—a war horse—since He is coming to conquer His enemies. He is Faithful to His promises and True to His own character. His eyes are like a flame of fire, suggesting the penetrating power of His righteous judgment. Only He wears the diadem (crown) of royalty and His mysteries will never be comprehended by any created being.

Satan, Devil, False Prophet

God’s judgment on Satan, the devil and the false prophet:

Revelation 20:7-10
Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Māgog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city [Jerusalem]. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Then the question is: “How can Satan collect masses of people, as the sand of the sea, upon release from his thousand year prison?”

To answer that question, we will refer to a commentary in The King James Study Bible (previously published as The Liberty Annotated Study Bible Copyright 1988 by Liberty University and Thomas Nelson):

“Unbelieving Tribulation survivors will enter the Millennium in un-resurrected, natural bodies, bringing offspring who will reproduce during the 1,000 years. Since these people are not “born again” and have the old nature of Adam they will therefore commit to sin. At the end of the Millennium Satan shall be released from his prison and will go out to deceive all the nations of the earth. Gog and Magog here possibly refer to the nations of the world in general and are after the Millennium.”

At this point, what will happen to the Antichrist and false prophet?
The Lord will capture and cast them into the lake of fire (Revelation 19:20) at the end of the Tribulation period and prior to the Millennial Reign.

Book of Life

Now, after the Millennial Reign there will be the Great White Throne Judgment, and everyone whose name is not written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:11-15
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hādēs delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hādēs were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

The dead standing before God are unbelievers of all Ages. And since their names are not written in the Book of Life, the Savior will judge them. Here we find the expression “the second death” which is the lake of fire!

Who is the Judge?

The Father appointed the Lord Jesus Christ as the judge:

John 5:22
“For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son.” …

John 5:24-30
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.
Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.”

Lord Jesus Christ Revealed

Researching the Scriptures we can say with certainty that the Lord Jesus Christ is God Almighty, Judge, Savior, Author of the Book of Revelation, Creator of the Universe, and Head of the Church.

Now, this concludes our short overview of “What is Revealed about Jesus Christ in the Book of Revelation”.
