What is the Millennial and Who Will Reign During the Millennial?

The Millennial refers to the one-thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ with His Church.

The Millennial

This will come soon after Christ’s Second Coming ending the war of Armageddon. So, the Millennial will be between the end of the Tribulation Period and the Great White Throne Judgment.

Many confuse the Second Coming with the Rapture. However, at the Second Coming the Lord Jesus puts His feet on this earth for the second time.

Rapture

Why isn’t the Rapture His Second Coming? Because at the Rapture He will come only as far as the atmosphere, but for His Second Coming He will plant His feet on the earth at the end of the Seven-Year Tribulation. At the Rapture He will take up and gather together the souls of His Church in the air, both those who have died and are in heaven, and those who are alive on this earth (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Their destination will be God’s kingdom—heaven.

Second Coming

Revelation chapter 19 records His Second Coming to the earth.

Revelation 19:11-21
Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse [Not the same white horse the Antichrist sat on in Revelation 6]. And He [Jesus] who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God [John 1:1, 14].
And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS

AND LORD OF LORDS.

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.” And I saw the beast [Antichrist], the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.
Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.

His Church

At this point, His Church will be back on earth with Him to serve in His army and reign with Him as servants.

Matthew 25:21
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’”
Luke 19:17
“And he [the master] said to him [the servant], ‘Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’”
2 Timothy 2:11-12a
This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.
Revelation 1:5-6
and [the Book of Revelation is] from [John, v.4, and] Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead [to remain alive forever more], and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Revelation 5:9-10
And they [the raptured Church] sang a new song, saying: “You [Jesus] are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue [language] and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.”
Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Millennial Reign

Christ will reign for those one thousand years until He overcomes His enemies:

1 Corinthians 15:25
For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.

Judgment

Then, before taking all believers back up to heaven, He will defeat Satan and his followers and then judge all unbelievers whom will be temporarily resurrected.

Revelation 20:7-10
Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Māgog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Great White Throne

Revelation 20:11-15
Then I saw a great white throne and Him [Jesus] who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hādēs delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hādēs were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 22:3-5
And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it [heaven], and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.

All Glory to God!
